What is dried beef?

It comes in a little bag. It's usually by the hotdogs, prepackaged sausages and other such meats. It's really thinly sliced. I'm not sure how else to describe it.

I finally found dried beef at the third store I looked. I asked a little old man who worked at the store and he'd never heard of it. 30 minutes later, however, he tracked me down with it in hand. What service! It was in a little jar, and he said it was by the mexican foods like salsa etc. Anyway, the dinner was good. The dried beef gives the chicken a smoky flavor. I served it with rice and green beans.
